VINTAGE POSTERS

18th May 2011 at 4am PST (12 noon UK)

One of our largest poster auctions in recent years offers a wide and varied interest for collectors, dealers and museums alike, there really is a poster for everyone in this six hundred and sixty lot extravaganza with a price range to fit any pocket.

We are very fortunate to be offering the varied collection of Travel posters of the late David Turner, he was a printer by trade working for John Waddington.  He often used to attend our auctions back in the 1980's adding to his collection when he could.  His collection is strong American Airlines with a good collection of designs by the much sought artist David Klein, the rarest in this collection must be the Jean Dupas design for London Transport which although is not in A grade condition should still sell for over 600.  The collection is also well represented in World Travel with shipping, airlines, railways and other subjects.

From other sources there are excellent collections of Home Front and Propaganda posters of the two World Wars.  We are also offering the finest single owner collection of some of the best posters of the Big Four British Railway Companies and London Transport, mainly in excellent condition have been recently backed on linen.  The finest amongst these must be Fortunino Matania's beautiful bathers poster published by the London Midland & Scottish Railway circa 1930, in near perfect condition and backed on linen is expected to make over 8000.

Last of all in the auction and possibly a new area of interest could be from the Ukraine, for here we offer a single owner collection of Soviet propaganda posters of post Second War up to the 1970's.
